MORTADELLA: AN EXCELLENCE OF ITALIAN CHARCUTERIE

Mortadella is the quintessence of Italian charcuterie, a product that recalls the ancient traditions of skilled artisan hands. It is the result of a skilful mix of different cuts of meat, skilfully blended with cubes of lard to obtain a creamy and compact mixture. Salt, herbs, spices and herbs are then added to the basic ingredients, creating a harmonious symphony of flavours that has been handed down for centuries, since the time of the ancient Romans.

MORTADELLA IGP: A GROWING SUCCESS

Mortadella di Bologna PGI, in contrast to the slowdown in sales of mass-market products in Europe, is growing. In fact, as reported by the control body IFCQ certifications and the agency Dire, in the first nine months of 2023 production grew (+5%), sales (+4%), and exports (+7.9%).

From January to September, over 28 million kilos of mortadella PGI were produced, 25 million of which have already been sold: 54.6% through large-scale distribution, 28.5% through traditional trade, 16.9% through discount stores and 20.4% through exports. The main countries that appreciate Mortadella di Bologna are France (30%) and Germany (25%).Compared to 2022, the first nine months of 2023 saw a growth of 9.8%.

In particular, in Germany and Spain, exports of Mortadella Bologna PGI grew in double figures, increasing by 17.3% and 13.0% respectively compared to the first nine months of 2022.
